Out & About

Peace, Love, and Gemstones

One of my favorite parts of Halloween, of course, is dressing up. But, I have to say that I’m not very fond of buying costumes, there’s just something about that shiny polyester that I don’t like. We’ve all done it, but I found that choosing stuff from my closet and accessorizing it accordingly might work even better… I’ll share a couple of ideas.

60’s Flower Child

It is all about stacking together textures, colors, and of course gemstones. As soon as you have the basics for your outfit, think of the accessories that will make your costume. The upside is that everything you get, you can wear again.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

Multiple Rings

A couple of big rings…The Gypsies Trunk has so many great designs they are real stones, and the best part is that after Halloween you can still use them, just not all together of course.

Headband

What’s a hippie without a headband? There are a ton of 60’s inspired headpieces out there and they are making a comeback, so pick and choose the one that best matches your costume, and then wear it for a day out.

From basic embellishments, to intricate lace, and even gemstones, you can find the headband that best fits the style you are aiming for. These are from Urban Outfiters, Threadsense, and NastyGal.

Necklace & Bracelets

Pile on necklaces necklaces and bracelets until they make a statement, mix and match colors, textures, stones, and of course throw a peace sign in the mix. Anything from Etsy’s Chromosphere will work perfectly, these designs are drusy stones that include: quartzs, amethysts, turquoise, etc.

If you are looking for a hippie inspired outfit,  a bulky and colorful collar could also work.  Look at this necklace from ModCloth, it is kind of a big deal!
